There’s no guarantee a child’s eating habits will be improved under the supervision of a foster parent.
Anyone with kids, and anyone who has had to take kids to birthday party after birthday party, or seen the public school put candy machines in the hall, knows that your child’s eating habits are not always strictly within your control.
Even if foster care helped a child’s obesity, do you really think it would cancel out the crippling emotional fallout of being taken away from your family?

Money Can’t Buy You Happiness.
Saddled with student loan debt? Unemployed? Couple weeks late on your rent? Don’t blame those things for being miserable; it turns out individualism is a “stronger predictor of well-being than wealth,” says a new psychological study. The study doesn’t necessarily say being poor means you’ll be happy, but it does say that the happiness of the people tested plateaued once they reached a certain amount of money. As basic needs were taken care of, the extra money lead to “marginal gains at best or even less well being” as people started using that money to one-up those around them.

Travel & Leisure Readers Are Cold Blooded. Travel & Leisure magazine polled readers for the dirtiest cities in America, and they put New Orleans at the top of the list, which seems unfair given that the city was, you know, obliterated by a hurricane a few years ago.

That’s from an op-ed in the New York Times dissecting Congressman Anthony Weiner’s prolific—and damaging—use of Twitter. Weiner is one of the most popular politicians on Twitter, based off of his following; he seemed to understand the casual nature of the site and mixed jokes with serious news subjects. He played well to his audience, but he still did not seem to grasp the notion that the public page was very public. And not even a hashtag could save him from his social media nightmare.

“Flash Mob” Does Not Mean What WSJ Thinks It Means. The Wall Street Journal is noticing a rash of gang attacks in Chicago, gangs they have oddly labeled as “flash mobs,” though there doesn’t seem to be any instance of the gangs breaking out into a rendition of “Poker Face” before hitting you in the face with a bat.

By now you know Alec Baldwin is apparently mulling a run for mayor of New York City, and before you go dismissing him on account of his notoriety, keep in mind that folks like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Al Franken, and Jesse Ventura have all won public office despite such concerns. Also, that Baldwin voice is smooth enough to sell me hot chocolate on a 130-degree day.

Fortunately, the person who found his open account was a stunning former beauty queen, who promptly closed it out. And isn’t it just like someone who hangs out at an Apple store and works for The Times to have the world’s most unlikely outcome possible happen to him.
